Whether or not it's really a man's world is up for debate, but singer Louisa Johnson made it her world on the night of the semi-finals for the twelfth season of "The X Factor UK." Backed by an all-female choir and string musicians, Johnson's powerhouse vocals brought a whole new perspective to "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," a 1966 James Brown classic.
"Now you're just showing off!" said judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini at the end of the performance, as all four judges finished their standing ovation and settled back into their seats. Just 17 years old at the time, Johnson's potent voice and strong stage presence had consistently impressed the judges throughout the competition.
Johnson performed the song again the following week at Wembley Arena. Digital Spy reports that she again brought the house down and prompted judge Simon Cowell to proclaim, "In all the years I have done this show, I have never, ever, heard anything as good as what you just did." Johnson was ultimately chosen as the winner of "The X Factor UK."
Johnson's fans are eagerly awaiting the release of her debut album, expected to be released in 2016.
